Resources for Parents During the Coronavirus Pandemic

With all of California ordered to ‘Shelter in Place’ and school closings due to the coronavirus pandemic, you may be wondering how to balance your usual workload and the challenge of becoming an overnight homeschool teacher. Luckily, there are many online resources available to help parents navigate social distancing and school closures with quality at-home learning opportunities. ParentMap put together a list of free (or temporarily free) online education resources for pre-K through college students. Visit their website for dozens of offerings, in both core and elective subjects, including programs in math, science, music, physical education, health, music, foreign language, and science. 

Toy & Game Young Inventor Challenge

The Toy & Game Young Inventor Challenge is a free STEM program that encourages kids to invent a toy or game during the stay-at-home days of COVID-19. Free resources include a design guide to walk your child through the invention process from start to finish and videos and articles for inspiration. Your children can even enter for a chance to win scholarships, prizes, and licensing for their game. In fact, a recent winner just launched their game in Target! The coolest part, every entrant will receive feedback from a toy/game executive!

Scholastic

Scholastic offers fun and engaging day-to-day projects for students in Pre-K to 9th grade. Kids can take math, reading, writing, science, social studies, early childhood, and STEM classes on their own or with a family member.

CK-12

CK-12 is a lifesaver for parents and teachers! CK-12 offers online textbooks, study guides, and interactive lessons in every required subject including science, math, social studies, and photography. The CK-12 website also features real-world simulations in physics and chemistry!

Parent Toolkit

Having trouble deciding where to start? Use this Parent Toolkit for kids in Pre-K through high school.
